Ascend and grow

What does the word ‘ascend’ mean to you? It has different meanings, from the simple climbing a flight of steps, to spiritual ascension, which means raising your energy to be on a higher vibration to connect with angels and souls in spirit. Personal ascension is somewhere in between. It’s about being high energy, but not in a whizzing around and getting things done way. Our goal here is to raise our emotional energy to a stage where we not only feel like we are living our best life, but we attract other positive people into our circle, which builds us up even more.
What’s the secret to personal ascension then? It’s simple, yet it’s also complex. Simple because we have all the tools we need for personal ascension within us. Complex because if we don’t practice personal care, and regularly check in with ourselves to see how we’re doing, it can be difficult to get started. And in the meantime, we build up resentments and fears that drag down our energy levels. So, how can we break this cycle and focus on our personal ascension? Here’s how!
You are not here to be a convenience for others and make their lives easier. You are here to learn and grow, and help others on their journey through this life. That doesn’t mean you should drop everything and disregard your own needs and desires whenever anyone snaps their fingers. It can be difficult to turn down requests for help, especially from loved ones, but if you’re not going to be overwhelmed, sometimes you have to do that.
If saying ‘No’ is too difficult at first, offer an alternative. Say ‘Sorry, I can’t do that today. Will tomorrow be okay?’ Or suggest another option. And don’t feel you have to explain yourself. A simple ‘It’s not convenient’ is enough. If you find some people expect you to drop everything to suit their plans, maybe you need to create some space between yourselves. Nobody should assume others will fall in line with them all the time. Learn to say no or suggest an alternative that suits you.
We live such busy lives these days. Even when we’re supposed to be retired, there are so many things going on, we find it impossible to find time to just be in the moment. The thing is, stuff will expand to fill the available time, so if you want some time to yourself, you need to schedule it! Even two or three minutes just sitting doing nothing can give you a great boost energy wise, so try it right now.
Sit in a comfortable chair, or lie down. Empty your mind. This is not thinking or planning time, it’s time for you. If you find it difficult to stop thinking about stuff, here’s a useful little exercise:
- Imagine your head is full of boxes. Look at them, see what shapes and colours they are. How many are there? Don’t bother opening them – you don’t need to.
- Now visualise each box moving out of your head and stacking in a pile, just out of sight. Maybe behind your shoulder. See the pile grow higher as the boxes build up.
- See that clear space in your head and just breathe into it for as long as you need to. When you feel ready, open your eyes. No need to put the boxes back – they are unloaded thoughts and impressions, and are only fleeting anyway.
One of the best ways to boost your emotional energy is to get outdoors and drink in the beauty around you. If taking the time out for a walk or a trip to the beach is making you jittery just thinking about it, just head out into your garden, if you have one. The important thing is to be outdoors here, so even walking down to the corner of your street is okay. Don’t take anything with you, other than a drink of water if you need it.
Now take the time to look around, and find something beautiful. Look at the sky – the cloud formations, the colours. It’s easier to find things in a setting like a garden, but there is beauty everywhere if you take the time to seek it out. A mother with a child, a dog enjoying its morning walk – the possibilities are infinite. An exercise like this reminds us that we are all connected to everything we can see and feel, and if you’re feeling lost and alone for any reason, you will feel easier for noting what’s around you.
Personal ascension is not something reserved for those with time to pamper themselves, it’s everyone’s birthright. However, you need to know you deserve it, and not feel that you are indulging yourself, otherwise you won’t get very far. These strategies will help you focus on yourself and your needs, so practice them regularly, until making time for yourself and your personal growth is second nature.
